A crash involving multiple semis closed the eastbound lanes of the Yellowhead Highway near Maidstone late Tuesday morning.
According to the RCMP, officers were on the scene of the crash on Highway 16 at the junction with Highway 21 about one kilometre west of Maidstone. A media release from the RCMP didn’t say how many trucks were involved.
The Highway Hotline said eastbound lanes were blocked and advised drivers to slow down and follow instructions from emergency personnel.
“No serious injuries have been reported to police but it’s expected the highway will be closed for several hours as clean-up of the roadway continues,” the Mounties said in a release. “Detours are in place but motorists should expect delays in the area.”
The RCMP said fog was affecting visibility in the region, so it urged drivers to use caution around emergency personnel.
