An annual holiday tradition will provide a special Christmas for almost 450 families this year.
650 CKOM and Rock 102’s Adopt-A-Family program brought in $60,700 in donations in 2023.
The program – which started by raising $5,000 back in 1988 – encourages businesses, families and individuals to “adopt” a less-fortunate local family during the holidays.
Donors are matched with Saskatoon-area families through The Salvation Army, and donors shop for gifts and groceries to help ensure the families’ holiday is a special one.
Heather Bonynge, promotions director with Rawlco Radio and 650 CKOM, said Saskatoon’s generosity was on display once again this year.
“Saskatoon really stepped up once again,” she told host Mark Losahck on the 650 CKOM Morning Show. “We are blown away by the generosity of our city.”
Bonynge said as an organizer she can sometimes lose sight of the huge positive effect the program has, but the day when families come to collect their gifts makes it all clear.
“It is truly a joy watching these families come and pick up their gifts,” she said. “They have tears in their eyes, and it’s just pure gratitude.”
Rawlco Radio would like to thank this year’s sponsors: Flex Networks, Saskatoon Smiles, Don Wehage & Sons Truck and Excavating and Saskatoon CPAP Services.
