A police pursuit over the weekend ended with three damaged police cruisers, an officer firing their gun and a 52-year-old man in custody.
In the early-morning hours of Saturday, police received a domestic assault report at a home in the 2400 block of Melrose Avenue. As officers arrived, the suspect was seen leaving in a Dodge Ram truck.
Officers located the vehicle near 11th Street and Circle Drive, but tire deflation devices were not successful. Eventually, the suspect’s truck and a police cruiser collided on Fairlight Drive.
The collision pinned a patrol officer in the passenger side of the cruiser. The officer driving exited the vehicle and fired at the truck’s tires.
The truck made it a few blocks further before it came to a stop in a nearby parking lot where the suspect was arrested.
While attempting to locate the suspect vehicle, two other police vehicles travelling on 11th Street West collided with each other, resulting in minor injuries to two patrol officers.
The 52-year-old man is now facing charges including assault, evading police and dangerous driving.
The incident will be reviewed in accordance with Saskatoon Police Service policy.
