Saskatoon’s Board of Police Commissioners named the city’s new interim police chief on Friday.
Acting deputy chief Dave Haye will take on the role of interim chief starting Jan. 1.
According to a statement from the board, Haye has been a member of the Saskatoon Police Service for 39 years. During that time he’s been a member of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, as well as the drug and intelligence units.
Haye also served two terms as president of the Saskatchewan Federation of Police Officers, and worked with the Saskatoon City Police Association for nearly 10 years, starting in 1996.
Outgoing police chief Troy Cooper announced his retirement in mid-October after nearly six years as the city’s top cop.
The Board of Police Commissioners will announce more details on its search for a permanent police chief at its next public meeting on Dec. 21.
