The RCMP has tracked down a suspect in a couple of ATM thefts in rural Saskatchewan.
In July, the Mounties in Leader got a call about a break-and-enter at a business in Burstall. Police determined two suspects had damaged the exterior of the business, broke in and stole an ATM, cash, a quantity of cigarettes and a brass till.
The ATM was later found empty west of Burstall.
About a week later, Kindersley RCMP officers were called about a break-in at a business in Eatonia. Someone had damaged the outside wall of the business, broke in and stole an ATM, the cash inside it and a quantity of cigarettes.
Part of the ATM was later found by police north of Eatonia. It didn’t have any cash inside when it was recovered.
On Sunday, Mounties in Kindersley saw a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Unity parked outside a business in Kindersley. A man was arrested nearby and was later identified as the suspect wanted by the Leader RCMP in connection with the Burstall break-in.
The Kindersley RCMP then executed a search warrant and found tools as well as a trailer that had been stolen.
Police subsequently charged the man in the theft of the ATM in Eatonia as well as thefts that were reported recently in Coleville. He also was charged with possession of the stolen vehicle.
A 36-year-old man from Redcliff, Alta., was charged with three counts each of mischief over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts each of theft over $5,000 and theft under $5,000, and one count each of break and enter, break, enter and commit, and knowingly using a forged document.
He made his first appearance in Kindersley Provincial Court on Thursday.
The RCMP has returned some of the stolen items to their owners and is working to return other items.
