Child abuse case leads to 3.5 year jail sentence for Saskatoon woman

A Saskatoon woman was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison on Friday for abusing three children at her home on Lenore Drive.

The woman, who can’t be named because doing so could identify the young victims, was charged with failing to provide proper necessitates to children, unlawful confinement and various assault-related charges.

Saskatoon police said the victims were two boys, aged four and seven, and a 10-year-old girl.

Officers were sent to the home in December of 2020 after officers received a report about a young boy on the roof of the home. A further investigation found the boy and his brother had been confined to a bedroom inside the home.

Because of time served already, the woman has 32 months left on her sentence.

Her boyfriend at the time received a six-month sentence for his part in the abuse case.

In the pre-sentence report, the judge said the man knew there were two boys were confined to the bedroom, but said the children were the woman’s responsibility.

He admitted in court that he needs to work on becoming “a better man.”
