The SJHL is following the WHL’s lead.
The Canadian Junior Hockey League — which oversees the SJHL and eight other junior A hockey leagues in Canada — has mandated the use of neck guards during all on-ice activities, including games and practices.
The edict covers all 122 of the CJHL’s teams, including the 12 clubs in the SJHL.
The Weyburn Red Wings announced Thursday that their players were going to start wearing the neck guards in addition to the cut-resistant shirts they already sported.
Our PLAYERS SAFETY is our number one priority and will always be our number one priority.

The WHL mandated the use of neck guards in the wake of the death of former NHL defenceman Adam Johnson, whose neck was cut by a skate blade during a game in England two weekends ago.
