Some energy-efficient products will be cheaper in Saskatchewan stores this fall, thanks to a move by two Crown corporations.
In an effort to reduce the energy usage of homes around the province, SaskPower and SaskEnergy are offering in-store discounts on LED bulbs, complete LED light fixtures, lighting controls and smart thermostats.
The discounts can be found at 60 stores around the province, the Crown corporations noted. The program runs until Nov. 26, or while supplies last.
According to Rhea Brown, an executive vice-president with SaskPower, the move should help reduce monthly bills for many in the province.
“SaskPower understands that affordability is a top concern for many of our customers, and we’re committed to helping them reduce their power use and lower their power bills,” Brown said in a statement.
“This program is designed to help customers make their homes more efficient, and small changes can lead to noticeable savings on power bills.”
According to SaskPower, the eligible products are:
- Select ENERGY STAR-certified specialty LED bulbs ($7 off per package);
- Select ENERGY STAR-certified LED fixtures ($15 off per package);
- Select energy-efficient controls, including dimmers, motion sensors, occupancy sensors and indoor timers ($8 off per package); and
- ENERGY STAR smart thermostats (in collaboration with SaskEnergy) ($75 off per package)
