Whether you like it or not, winter is fast approaching, and now is the ideal time to book an appointment for winter tires, says OK Tire’s Rod Jansen.
While many choose to get winter tires on their vehicles, others rely on all-season tires year-round.
“Those knobby tires look great and are good in the snow, but when it comes to ice and stopping at the intersections – the siping – which are the little lines – there just isn’t enough in it to compare it to a winter tire,” said Jansen on the CKOM Morning Show with Shack Thursday.
Jansen explained that all-weather tires offer more to drivers in the colder months than all-season tires, but neither are superior to a winter tire.
“It’s not as soft as a winter (tire), but there’s also more siping, so you’re getting a better tread design. They do ware out a little quicker, and more are on the price line as a winter tire,” he said. “Winter tires obviously aren’t the cheapest, but they protect you the most because they’re keeping you out of accidents and keeping you on the road.”
Jansen said tire appointments are rapidly filling up with snow approaching. He suggests the best time to get winter tires put on is before Oct. 15.
