There’s a large police presence on the Big River First Nation after a man approached two homes and threatened the occupants with a gun.
According to the RCMP, there have been several gun-related incidents in the area in recent days, and they appear to all involve the same man.
Police said a person was hospitalized with serious injuries after an assault on Monday, and it appears the same man who committed the assault later approached two homes – one on Monday and another on Tuesday – where he threatened the people inside while brandishing a gun.
Police said that aside from the initial assault, no other injuries were reported.
The suspect was described as about 5-foot-7 and around 170 pounds with dark hair and brown eyes, along with tattoos on both of his temples.
The RCMP said residents of the First Nation will notice “an increased police presence” in the community as officers work to identify and arrest the suspect.
“It is not believed these incidents are random in nature,” the RCMP said in a statement. “If investigation determines an imminent risk to public safety exists, we will inform the public.”
Anyone with information that could help the investigation was urged to contact the Big River RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
