Three teenagers were arrested after an off-duty Saskatoon police officer allegedly was attacked on Saturday.
According to police, the incident happened at about 4 a.m., when the officer saw a man arguing with a group of five or six youths at the intersection of 25th Street East and Third Avenue North.
“When the officer began ordering the teenagers to back away, he was assaulted by a female youth with a metal rod,” police said in a release. “As he attempted to take the female into custody, he was further assaulted by two male youth, who began punching him.”
On-duty officers who were nearby arrived on the scene and arrested the trio. The police investigation determined the teens had been involved in a theft from a nearby convenience store and were chased down by an employee.
No one suffered serious injuries.
A 15-year-old girl was charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, theft under $5,000, and two counts of breach of undertaking.
A 13-year-old boy was charged with assaulting a peace officer and theft under $5,000, while a 16-year-old man is facing a charge of assaulting a peace officer.
