The Saskatoon Fire Department is paying tribute to the hundreds of first responders killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
On the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy, members of Saskatoon’s fire department observed a moment of silence at each of the city’s nine fire stations “to honour those who never returned home to their friends and families on September 11, 2001.”
In a statement, the fire department noted that 343 firefighters and paramedics, along with 60 law enforcement officers, were killed on the grounds of the World Trade Center in New York as they tried to help victims of the attacks.
The Saskatoon Police Service shared a post on social media saying police officers will also pause on the anniversary to remember the victims of the tragedy, along with “the families that were forever changed, and the bravery of those who responded to serve.
“We will never forget,” the post read.
