Saskatoon and Tisdale will be hosting some of the best curlers in the province in 2024.
CurlSask on Tuesday announced the 2024 Viterra Scotties — the provincial women’s curling championship — will be held at the Tisdale RECPlex from Jan. 17-21.
The governing body for curling in Saskatchewan also announced the 2024 provincial men’s championship bonspiel, the SaskTel Tankard, will be contested at Saskatoon’s Nutana Curling Club from Jan. 30 to Feb. 4.
The competition in Tisdale will include 12 of the best women’s teams in the province. The winner will represent Saskatchewan in the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts — the Canadian women’s championship. That event is set for Calgary from Feb. 16-25.
“Tisdale is excited to host this event,” Lori Kidney, the co-host chair for the provincial event, said in the CurlSask media release. “We’ve hosted events in the past and we get great support from our community, both from sponsors and volunteers.
“We really feel that the volunteers from Tisdale are second to none. We feel that people can expect to see some great competition combined with a lot of fun. There will be a patch of sorts with nightly entertainment, food and a great opportunity to get out of the house in January!”

A Saskatchewan team hasn’t won the Canadian women’s title since 2011, when Amber Holland’s team claimed the championship in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Robyn Silvernagle’s rink represented Saskatchewan at the 2023 Scotties in Kamloops, B.C.
The 12 teams competing in the SaskTel Tankard will be looking to wrap up a berth in the 2024 Brier. The Canadian men’s curling championship is to be held in Regina from March 1-10.
“At the 2024 SaskTel Tankard, we will crown a champion that will go on to represent Saskatchewan at the Brier in Saskatchewan. This hasn’t happened in a curling club for a very long time and to us it’s just an incredible privilege,” Arlen Hall, the co-chair of the host committee and president of the Nutana Curling Club, said in the release.

Saskatchewan is trying to end a long drought without a Brier title. The last team from this province to win the Canadian men’s curling championship was Rick Folk’s foursome in 1980 in Calgary.
Kelly Knapp’s Regina-based team was the province’s representative at the Brier in 2023. That event was held in London, Ont.
