It has been nearly one year since the City of Saskatoon held its last household hazardous waste (HHW) dropoff days.
That’s to change this weekend.
The last HHW event took place last Oct. 16,. The scheduled November dropoff was cancelled because of the weather.
According to the city, there wasn’t a successful Request for Proposals (RFP) process last spring to find a company to run the events. That meant the city had to repeat the process a second time.
QM Environmental, along with the city, will now take over the job. According to its website, the company specializes in environmental remediation, hazardous material abatement, infection control, and waste and soil management.
Starting on Sunday and then every two weeks until Oct. 29, residents can drop off items including aerosols, vehicle fluids, cylinders, medications, yard chemicals and other products at the Civic Operations Centre on Valley Road.
The site will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each time.
The city asks that people make sure containers are safely sealed and the contents clearly marked.
A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items can be found here.
