RCMP officers are investigating a man’s suspicious death at Emma Lake’s MacIntosh Point.
According to police, the RCMP received a report of an unresponsive man Monday morning, and quickly located the man’s body “in an outdoor location.”
The man was identified as 27-year-old Phillip Okemow from the Sturgeon Lake First Nation. The RCMP said his family has been notified of the death, and an autopsy has been ordered.
“Based on information gathered to date, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is investigating Philip’s death as a homicide,” the Mounties said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.
“Residents in the Emma Lake area may notice an increased police presence as the investigation continues. If an increased risk to public safety is identified, we will notify the public.”
The RCMP asked anyone with information about Okemow’s death – “or who saw or had contact with him on the evening of August 20 or the early morning hours of August 21” – to contact the Saskatchewan RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
