Stanley Cup champion Brayden McNabb will be spending his day with Lord Stanley in Davidson on Wednesday.
McNabb won his first Cup in June when his Vegas Golden Knights knocked off the Florida Panthers in five games to bring Sin City its first major sports championship.
According to McNabb’s mother Jeannine, the town is ready to celebrate her son’s biggest achievement.
“We’re very excited about it,” Jeannine said. “The town is so excited (and) I think the town is more excited than we are. Everybody we meet is like, ‘They’re coming! They’re coming,’ so we’re excited for Brayden.”
The Cup will arrive in Brayden’s hands on Wednesday morning and spend some time with his family before heading downtown, where the community has a parade planned.
The parade route will start at the school on Government Road, loop around the town and finish at the hockey rink. There, fans will be able to take pictures with McNabb and the Stanley Cup, as well as get autographs if they want to get something signed.
According to Jeannine, Brayden is making sure everyone gets a chance to meet him if they would like.
“He last Wednesday came down for a signing to make sure the Davidson kids who couldn’t make it (to the parade could meet him). It’s pretty cool. I went downtown (Sunday) and the Home Hardware had a big Vegas welcome sign. I think the town is really starting to buzz about it,” Jeannine added.
She thinks the Cup coming to Davidson for the first time means a little extra for everyone there.
“Because we’re from a small town, I think it’s very important to celebrate it with the community. They support Brayden, they’ll go (to Vegas) and watch games and so many of them ask about Brayden,” she explained. “The community is so excited. I’m happy for the community. I’m happy that we’re celebrating it with the town of Davidson. It’s going to be a good day.”
Jeannine mentioned that while Brayden is a Stanley Cup champion and bringing hockey’s biggest trophy to his hometown, he’s not the only hockey player or team from the community who has brought home some major hockey hardware.
Nolan Allan of the Seattle Thunderbirds won the Ed Chynoweth Cup as a member of the WHL championship team and he won gold at the 2023 world junior hockey championship.
Jackson Allan of the Battleford North Stars won the SJHL championship this season and the Davidson Cyclones won the Long Lake Hockey League championship.
“That to me is as exciting as Brayden winning the Stanley Cup,” Jeannine said.
The events in Davidson will wrap up at the hockey rink at 8:45 p.m.
