The weekend and beyond promised to be hot in Saskatchewan with heat warnings already popping up in some parts of the province before the sun was even up on Friday.
The heat warning from Environment Canada was issued before 5 a.m. for communities in the southwest corner including Maple Creek, Shaunavon, Eastend and Val Marie.
It was warning about highs up to 32 C with lows not dropping below 16 C. It said this would be a “prolonged” event with things not improving until early next week.
Environment Canada said the risks of heat are worst for young children, people who are pregnant, older adults, those who are chronically ill and people who work or exercise outdoors.
Other parts of the province were also looking at several days in the 30s. As of Friday morning, Saskatoon was expected to get to highs in the 30s on Sunday, continuing into Monday and Tuesday.
In Regina, the heat was expected to start earlier, with a high of 31 C expected on Saturday and continuing through into Wednesday next week, including a forecast of 35 C on Monday.
