The T.rex Discovery Centre in Eastend is getting ready for a big summer season.
The centre features Scotty, the world’s largest tyrannosaurus rex, along with a 10-metre tylosaurus specimen and plenty of other prehistoric exhibits for guests to enjoy, including the hands-on Paleo Lab Experience.
The centre and community are celebrating ‘Dino Days’ later this month. On July 21, Jurassic World will be screened at the centre’s theatre at 3 p.m. The following day, July 22, a parade will be held in Eastend followed by a dinosaur scavenger hunt and a screening of Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom. On July 23, the third film in the series, Jurassic World: Dominion will be screened at the centre’s theatre.
On Aug. 1, the theatre will host the Eastend Astronomical Club for a presentation about astronomy’s history, new research in the field, and capturing images of the night sky through astrophotography.
In August, the anniversary of Scotty’s discovery will be celebrated. The massive dinosaur was unearthed on Aug. 16, 1991 by Robert Gebhardt, and the centre will hold a birthday scavenger hunt with dino-themed prizes from Aug. 13-23 and a special birthday celebration at the centre Aug. 16.
“The T.rex Discovery Centre is an amazing attraction for all ages to enjoy,” Laura Ross, Saskatchewan’s minister of parks, culture and sport said in a statement.
“Whether it is seeing Scotty, the world’s largest tyrannosaurus rex for the first time or taking in the exhibits and programming, the Centre is the perfect summer destination for family fun.”
