Heat warnings in effect for northern, southwest Sask.

Break out the shorts and the flip-flops; Friday’s going to be a hot one for much of Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada has heat warnings in effect for the northern half and southwestern corner of the province.

In the north, the weather service said temperatures are expected to hit 29 C, with overnight lows of 14 C. The southwest is expected to be even warmer, with daytime highs up to 32 C and overnight lows of 16 expected for the next two days.

While temperatures in northern Saskatchewan are expected to moderate over the weekend, Environment Canada said the southwest region will stay hot until Sunday morning.

“The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors,” the weather service said in a statement.

The heat warnings in effect Friday covered the areas around Cree Lake, Fond du Lac, Hudson Bay, Île à la Crosse, La Loche, Lloydminster, Maple Creek, Melfort, Pelican Narrows, Shaunavon, Southend, Uranium City and Wollaston Lake.
