Travel near Kenaston is about to get a lot smoother.
A $22.7-million project to improve Highway 15 is underway in the Kenaston area. The work will include constructing a subgrade, as well as widening and resurfacing 22 kilometres of the highway.
According to the Ministry of Highways, the major project runs from a spot about 15 kilometres east of the junction with Highway 11 and ends about 20 kilometres west of the Highway 2 intersection.
Culvert replacements and road widening are expected to be completed by the fall, while the paving work will take place during the 2024 construction season.
“Highway 15, a high clearance corridor, offers shippers and commercial carriers an ideal opportunity to transport over-dimension loads,” said Jeremy Cockrill, the province’s highway minister.
“We appreciate the patience of drivers who slow down for safety as we work to enhance our transportation system.”
The ministry said 1,000 kilometres of provincial highways will see improvements this year.
Drivers were advised to check the highway construction schedule posted weekly on the provincial government’s website, and make use of the Highway Hotline to plan alternate routes and avoid delays.
