Highway 16 is open again after a serious crash.
The major Saskatchewan highway was blocked for much of the day Wednesday after what police called a “serious two-vehicle collision” west of Plunkett.
According to preliminary information shared by the Saskatchewan RCMP, the two-vehicle collision involved a cargo van and a semi. The Highway Hotline indicated the crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
While police did not say whether any deaths or injuries had occurred, the RCMP noted that both the air ambulance service STARS and local paramedics were assisting at the scene, along with members of Viscount Fire and Rescue.
The highway is blocked in both directions, but the RCMP said traffic is being routed around the scene.
“Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and to follow traffic restrictions,” the RCMP said in a statement. “An update will be provided as more information becomes available.”
Plunkett is located about 100 kilometres southeast of Saskatoon.
