Police in Saskatoon have arrested another suspect after a 35-year-old man was killed in a shooting Wednesday morning.
Officers were called to a location on Avenue S South at about 7 a.m., where they found a 35-year-old man who had been shot. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“At the request of family, the identity of the deceased is not being released at this time,” police said in a subsequent release.
Officers saw two people whom they believed to be involved leaving a nearby home and getting into a truck. Police said the suspects took off at high speed, and abandoned the vehicle to flee on foot in a rural area near the Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation, where they were later arrested.
An emergency alert was issued because the suspects were believed to be armed, police said, but the alert was cancelled after the arrests.
Police said officers also arrested 15 other people from the home on Avenue W South.
On Wednesday afternoon, police issued an update saying another suspect has been identified.
“Initial investigation has identified 24-year-old Shane Thomas as a suspect, and police believe he was known to the victim,” police said in a statement.
In a later update, police said Thomas was arrested without incident on Idylwyld Drive.
