Saskatchewan’s newest millionaires have big plans.
Mitchell and Sheila Peebles won the LOTTO 6/49 Classic Draw jackpot, and now find themselves richer by $5 million.
The Saskatoon couple won the draw last Saturday, and after discovering their victory they claimed the prize first thing Monday morning.
“My normal process is to check my tickets the day after the draw,” Mitchell said Friday. “I scanned my ticket and I felt an electric shock through my body. I was shocked, but I believed it right away and it felt good.”
Mitchell said he woke up Sheila to tell her the news, but she thought he was kidding at first.
“I didn’t believe him,” she said. “He had to scan the ticket a second time and even then … I guess you could say I was in shock.”
The couple said they are both going to retire. Mitchell worked as a framer and drywaller, but said he is never going to touch a piece of drywall again. Sheila worked for EGADZ in the downtown youth centre.
The couple has already decided what they’re going to do with their money.
“We’re buying an RV and a house, and for our three girls we are going to buy them a house each,” Mitchell said.
The couple said they plan to travel as well.
