Police in Saskatoon are asking people to keep an eye out for a specialized wheelchair attachment that was stolen from a parked vehicle last month.
According to police, the thief or thieves smashed out the back window of the owner’s vehicle on April 8 and stole his Batec Scrambler 2, an attachment that turns a wheelchair into a type of ATV.
“With the chair, the part is valued at $20,000 but it’s invaluable to the victim, who says he was crushed when he saw that it was gone,” police said in a social media post.
“The attachment allows the user to drive up onto sidewalks, move along grass or gravel with ease and overall, provides a better quality of life for the user … which he was also robbed of.”
The attachment is “army green” in colour with black handles, police said. It has a 20-inch tire and weighs 35 pounds. Police shared photos showing the make and model of the attachment, but noted the colour of the stolen attachment is different than the photos.
Anyone who spots the attachment or has information that could help in its recovery was urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
