A girl under the age of 16 has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a killing on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation last week.
On Tuesday, officers from the Waskesiu and Montreal Lake RCMP detachments responded to a call about an injured man laying on a road on the First Nation. The man, subsequently identified as 50-year-old Keith Stewart, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a release Monday, the Mounties said a girl had been arrested and charged in relation to Stewart’s death. The girl, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is to make her next court appearance on Friday.
The RCMP didn’t specify exactly how old the suspect is, or how Stewart was killed.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call their local detachment at 310-RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
