The sale of two more former liquor stores has generated another $800,000 for the Saskatchewan government.
In a media release Monday, the government said the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority has accepted offers on buildings that used to be SLGA-run liquor stores in Biggar and Watrous.
The SLGA previously accepted offers on buildings that housed its stores in Esterhazy, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows, Creighton, Carlyle, Humboldt and Moosomin.
The sale of the nine properties has generated a total of $2,885,000.
The sales come as the provincial government leaves the liquor retail business following an announcement in last fall’s Throne Speech. At the time, Premier Scott Moe said it was “not a core business of government” and announced the closure of the remaining 34 SLGA stores around Saskatchewan.
Private permits were put up for auction in communities where SLGA stores were closing, and those sales brought in a total of $45,077,800.
SLGA Retail Inc. owned 19 of the 34 buildings that housed its stores. The government said five of the buildings are to be repurposed for other government organizations.
