Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Riley Boersma has retired before playing in a CFL regular-season game.
The Roughriders made the announcement in a media release Thursday, just six days before the CFL team is to open rookie camp in Saskatoon. No reason was given for Boersma’s retirement.
A product of Cambridge, Ont., Boersma was selected by Saskatchewan in the eighth round (72nd overall) of the 2022 draft out of the University of Regina Rams program. He had 73 receptions for 1,074 yards and six touchdowns in 25 regular-season games with the Rams.
The Roughriders also announced they had released linebacker Justin Rice and signed linebacker Kyrei Fisher-Morris.
The 6-foot-1, 237-pound Fisher-Morris played four seasons at Oregon State University, where he recorded 114 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and one interception over 31 games. He also played four games over two seasons at the University of Arkansas.
