Two Regina Pats and three Saskatoon Blades were named to the WHL’s East Division all-star teams Tuesday.
Pats centre Connor Bedard and Regina defenceman Stanislav Svozil were named to the first all-star team. The three Blades — goalie Austin Elliott, defenceman Aidan De La Gorgendiere and forward Trevor Wong — were selected to the second team.
Bedard, 17, led the league in goals (71) and points (143) in the regular season, and tied for first in the WHL in assists (72). He also finished tied for first in the league with 11 game-winning-goals.
Svozil, 20, finished third among WHL defencemen with 78 points, and ranked first among blueliners in power-play assists (36) and second overall in assists (67).
The 18-year-old Elliott led WHL rookie netminders with 25 wins, and his 2.20 goals-against average was the third-best mark in the league. He finished in a tie for ninth among WHL goalies with two shutouts.
De La Gorgendiere, 21, set career highs in goals (12), assists (53) and points (65) in his final junior season. He finished tied for seventh among WHL defencemen in scoring.
Wong, 19, led the Blades in scoring with 86 points, including a team-high 59 assists. He also finished second among WHL forwards with 32 power-play assists, a total that was good for fourth in the league.
