Acting is how 10-year-old Beck Schurko “roles.”
The voice and film actor has already landed some notable roles in his career, like voice-overs in shows like ‘Sesame Street’ and a Nike commercial. Most recently, he landed an appearance on an episode of ‘Alaska Daily,’ a drama starring Hilary Swank.
“It’s really fun,” the young actor said about his job.
Most of Schurko’s voice acting work is done from his family’s home studio in Saskatoon, where his parents and brother also work as actors.

Amanda Sellers, Schurko’s mom, said she noticed how outspoken both of her sons were, and started lining up voice acting auditions for them.
“We just saw them really loving it, especially seeing the finished product,” she said.
Schurko is no stranger to show business. He said he voiced his first commercial for a children’s hospital in Florida at age two.
“I don’t know how,” he said. “Two seems a little young.”
Voice acting is less nerve-wracking than getting in front of the camera, Schurko said, but he still auditions for both film and voice acting gigs up to twice a week.
“For voice acting, all you have to do is say your lines a couple of times,” he said.
What Schurko loves most about voice acting is meeting new friends and travelling. He’s taken a few trips to Vancouver for filming, he added.
Sellers said the responses she receives from people on set when Schurko is filming have been very positive.
“Everyone’s jaw drops, even from when he was five years old,” she said.
Schurko can be seen in the Netflix romantic drama ‘2 Hearts,’ starring actor Jacob Elordi.
“I was so blown away with his performance, and how natural he was,” Sellers said.
Schurko said one of his favorite voice acting gigs was an ad for Nintendo, and he got to spend some of his time playing games.
“I met a lot of new friends,” he said.
More recently, Schurko said he travelled to Vancouver to act in an episode of ‘Alaska Daily.’
The show stars Swank, but Schurko said he didn’t get to meet the star in person because of a last-minute script change.
“It was still really fun. I met a whole bunch of people,” he said.
For kids who are hoping to become actors themselves, Schurko’s advice was simple: “Just go for it.”
“If you’re a kid, ask your parents to find an agent,” he added.
Sellers’ advice for parents was to start locally and to get involved in any acting activities that require self-expression and reading aloud.
She said Schurko attends improv classes at SaskExpress.
Although Schurko said he doesn’t have a dream role, there are a few famous actors he’d really like to work with.
“Tom Cruise,” he said. “I would love to be in a ‘Top Gun’ movie. That would be absolutely awesome.”
