A doctor who practised in Nipawin for years and who’s a former team doctor for the local SJHL hockey team will have a hearing into allegations of unprofessional conduct.
Dr. Albert Albertyn was charged with criminal harassment in May 2022. According to documents from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Albertyn was then charged three times with breaching conditions of his release by contacting his ex-girlfriend.
He surrendered himself to police in September of last year and remained in custody until his conviction in November.
The court sentenced Albertyn to 79 days in jail along with 18 months of probation. Because of his time on remand, his jail time was effectively served.
The Nipawin Hawks confirmed Albertyn has not been part of the team since 2021, well before the charges were laid.
No date has been set for the conduct hearing.
