Highways across central Saskatchewan were a mess Tuesday.
As of 5 p.m., the Highway Hotline said the Trans-Canada Highway from Qu’Appelle to Wolseley and Highway 10 from Balgonie to Fort Qu’Appelle were closed due to drifting snow, ice and slush.
Travel wasn’t recommended on several roads in the province, including the Trans-Canada Highway from Wolseley to Broadview, as well as Highway 11 from Saskatoon to Davidson.
The same advisory was issued for Highway 5 from Saskatoon to the junction with Highway 2, Highway 7 from Fiske to the Alberta border, Highway 15 from Milden to east of Kenaston, Highway 16 from Saskatoon to Dafoe, Highway 32 from Swift Current to Lancer, and Highway 41 from Saskatoon to Wakaw.
The Highway Hotline said all of those roads were covered in ice and drifting snow. Visibility also was reduced.
Visibility was a concern on a number of other highways in the North Battleford, Rosetown, Prince Albert and Saskatoon areas.
Earlier in the day, stretches of the Trans-Canada were closed around Swift Current. That closures eventually were lifted.
More information is available on the Highway Hotline webpage.
Meanwhile, snowfall warnings issued by Environment Canada on Monday for areas of northern Saskatchewan remained in place Tuesday.
The weather service said that between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow would fall by Tuesday evening. The snow was expected to taper off Tuesday night.
