The Saskatoon Blazers moved on to the second round of the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League’s playoffs in resounding fashion after beating the Notre Dame Hounds 4-0 on Wednesday night.
Alex Garrett made 33 saves for his first shutout of the 2023 playoffs, sealing the Blazers’ spot in the next round after sweeping the best-of-five series 3-0.
The Blazers — the No. 1 seed in the playoffs — opened the scoring in the second half of the first period as Kash Andresen and Lee Shurgot gave the Blazers a 2-0 lead after one.
Notre Dame did its best to keep its season alive after being down two games to none in the series, and held Saskatoon scoreless in the second. But the Blazers put the Hounds and their season to bed in the third after two more goals from captain Josh Knittig and Cole Reschny.
Saskatoon will have to wait for another series to end to determine its next opponent for the next round.
