A La Loche man and an Alberta woman have been charged with criminal negligence causing death in connection with the death of a 34-year-old man.
According to the RCMP, police received a report that Nathan Piche was missing from the Garson Lake area on Feb. 14. Three days later, police found his body about one kilometre from the spot where he was last seen.
Police said the investigation led to a 28-year-old man from La Loche, who was arrested last Friday.
Shortly after his arrest, the RCMP said, the man claimed he was in medical distress, but police said that when he was taken to the hospital, he tried to attack the officers who were escorting him.
“Further investigation determined the male was not in acute medical distress,” the RCMP added in a statement.
He’s now charged with criminal negligence causing death, assaulting a police officer, and assaulting a police officer with a weapon, the RCMP said.
Further investigation into Piche’s death led police to a 35-year-old woman from Janvier, Alta., the RCMP said. She was arrested in Alberta on Monday, and is also charged with criminal negligence causing death.
“Arrangements are being made for her return to Saskatchewan,” the RCMP said.
