Groups and organizations that raise money through charitable gaming activities are getting an extra bump from the Saskatchewan government.
The provincial government announced Wednesday it was giving them around $1.45 million.
“The work of our friends and neighbours displays that the spirit of volunteerism is strong in Saskatchewan,” Lori Carr, the minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, said in a media release. “Our government is pleased to continue to support the volunteers and charities that make a difference in the communities we love.”
The grants range from $5.50 to Journey to Hope Regina Incorporated to $100,000 each for the Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation/Natotawin Broadcasting Inc. in La Ronge and Onion Lake Community Events.
According to the government, the charitable gaming grant program gives a grant equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised through charitable gaming activities such as licensed bingos, raffles, breakopen tickets, Texas Hold’em poker and Monte Carlo events.
Groups don’t have to apply for the charitable gaming grant. Reports submitted by the groups are used by the SLGA to determine the grants that are paid out each quarter.
