The man who was stopped by several staff members as he attempted to rob a convenience store in Nipawin will do some lengthy jail time.
Robert McKay was given a 2,078-day jail sentence in Nipawin Provincial Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to two of the nine charges he was facing.
McKay was convicted of robbery with a firearm and having a weapon contrary to an order.
In addition to the jail time, McKay was given a lifetime ban on owning or possessing any firearm, must submit his DNA to the national database, and forfeited the gun he used to try to rob the Par-a-Mart Esso.
McKay was captured on store surveillance cameras as he went into the store on Dec. 8 pointing a gun at the clerk.
As he goes around the counter to attempt to empty the cash registers, one clerk can be seen tackling him to the ground, a second clerk hits him with a folded chair and the third clerk uses a baseball bat before they restrain him.
The RCMP was called to the scene and arrested McKay without further incident.
The charges dropped included wearing a disguise, several gun-related charges, and failing to comply with a probation order.
