Police in northern Saskatchewan have recovered a gun that was stolen from a conservation officer.
According to the RCMP, on Feb. 6, officers in Buffalo Narrows received a report of a break-in and theft. The stolen items included several guns, police said, along with “duty items and a firearm belonging to a conservation officer with the Provincial Protective Services Branch.”
The firearms and equipment were properly stored at the time of the theft, the RCMP noted.
After what the RCMP described as an “extensive” investigation, police recovered several of the stolen items, including the conservation officer’s gun, during a traffic stop Monday.
Police said an SUV was stopped and searched on the highway between Canoe Narrows and Île-à-la-Crosse. Inside the vehicle, police found the stolen gun, another gun, a drone, knives, bear spray, a baton, and substances believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine.
A 35-year-old from Green Lake and a 21-year-old from Buffalo Narrows were both arrested and now face a lengthy list of criminal charges, the RCMP said. Both were held in custody in advance of a court appearance in Beauval, police said.
