A local product is staying at home in Saskatchewan with the Roughriders in 2023.
The CFL club announced Friday that Mitch Picton had signed a two-year extension with the team. The 27-year-old Regina product was set to become a free agent on Tuesday.
Picton dressed for 11 Roughriders games in 2022, recording 18 catches for 220 yards and two touchdowns. Known for his versatility in the Riders’ offence, Picton played at least one game in each of the five receiver positions last season.
The former University of Regina Rams star was taken by Saskatchewan in the fifth round (37th overall) of the 2017 draft. Since then, he has had to work his way up from the practice roster; he made his CFL debut on July 27, 2019.
Picton played in 38 collegiate games over five seasons at the U of R. While there, he tallied 170 receptions for 2,447 yards and 24 touchdowns.
The Riders still have 22 pending free agents.
