Structural engineers will be taking a look at the damage after the roof of a building on Saskatoon’s north end partially caved in early Saturday morning.
The fire department was called shortly after 3 a.m. to the 400 block of 51st Street East. Police officers noticed water leaking and noises coming from inside a building.
Members on scene noticed the building’s roof was collapsing inwardly and the exterior walls were failing.
The building has been closed and the area around it has been secured with fencing until an assessment can be performed by a structural engineer.
Nobody was inside the building at the time.
Apartment blaze
A three-storey apartment building was evacuated after an early-morning fire on Saturday.
Fire crews were called to the 1100 block of Avenue W North shortly after 1 a.m. where a basement suite had caught fire.
Nobody was injured.
Damage is estimated at $40,000.
According to a news release, the fire originated in the bedroom of the suite, but a cause has yet to be determined.
