Police are searching for a violent and possibly armed suspect on the One Arrow First Nation.
According to the RCMP, officers were called at 10:30 p.m. Thursday after a report of “a violent assault” at a One Arrow home.
In a statement, the RCMP said its early investigation suggests the assault was a targeted attack. The suspect was described as an adult man, but no further description was shared. The RCMP did not say whether the victim or victims were injured in the assault.
While an initial statement from RCMP said the assault involved a firearm, an update sent Friday afternoon clarified that the suspect did not have a gun during the assault. Police noted, however, that the man is still considered dangerous and might be armed.
There will be a large police presence on the First Nation on Friday, the RCMP advised, as officers patrol the community searching for the suspect and speaking with witnesses. Residents were asked to avoid areas where police are working and follow any directions given by officers.
Officers have spoken with the First Nation’s leadership, the RCMP added, “to relay steps residents can take to help maintain their safety.”
Police said more information will be released “as soon as we are able,” and said the public will be notified “if an increased risk to public safety is identified.”
The One Arrow First Nation is located about 100 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
