Police in Saskatoon are going to be out on New Year’s Eve conducting checkstops in search of impaired drivers.
Drivers were reminded that – in addition to the tragic cost that can come with a collision – impaired driving can lead to “serious sanctions, including criminal charges, immediate roadside suspensions, and vehicle impoundments.”
When approaching a checkstop, police asked drivers to slow down and follow any directions given by police officers.
There are plenty of options to get home safely besides driving while impaired, police said, including public transit, rideshare services, taxis, and designated driver services.
“The Saskatoon Police Service would like to wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy New Year’s Eve,” the police said in a statement. “Let’s keep our roads, and community safe, heading into 2023.”
