A fire at a Saskatoon motel has left one person dead.
According to the Saskatoon Fire Department, emergency crews were called to a motel in the 1800 block of Idylwyld Drive North just before 6 a.m. Thursday.
When the firefighters arrived, they saw flames and smoke coming out of one of the suites. After forcing open the door, the fire crews found the fire, along with the body of one of the motel’s occupants. The body was quickly removed from the suite, the fire department said, and the blaze was extinguished before it could spread further.
Firefighters performed a search of the building to ensure all other occupants made it out safely, and the building was then prepared for ventilation.
The victim was an adult man, police said in a statement, and a police arson investigator determined the cause of the fire was not criminal.
“Investigation has determined the death to be non-suspicious,” the statement read. “Police will not be releasing the identity of the deceased.”
