Saskatoon Public Schools has sold Pleasant Hill School to the Government of Saskatchewan.
That means the elementary school will permanently close its doors at the end of June. Pleasant Hill students will be transferred to other local schools in September of next year, while teachers will be offered employment opportunities elsewhere in the school division.
According to SPSD board chair Colleen MacPherson, the sale happened two years sooner than expected.
“The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement has identified Pleasant Hill School as the ideal site for future projects within the community,” MacPherson said in a release.
She added that the school division wouldn’t have sold the property so quickly and without a public tender process “unless we were assured it would be used as a significant asset for the community’s benefit for many years to come.”
In March of 2020, the provincial government approved the construction of the consolidated City Centre School, which meant that Pleasant Hill, Princess Alexandra and King George schools would all eventually close. That new school is expected to open its doors in 2025.
