The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added another former NFL draft pick to their offensive line group.
Just two weeks after announcing the signing of Jeremiah Poutasi — a third-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 NFL draft — the Roughriders announced they had signed Jerald Hawkins.
The 6-foot-6, 305-pounder was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round (123rd overall) of the 2016 NFL draft.
The former LSU standout played 19 games in the NFL, primarily with the Steelers, with one start. He also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans, New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints.
Hawkins played four seasons at LSU and started in all 39 games he played as a Tiger, with 25 starts at right tackle and 12 at left tackle.
Saskatchewan surrendered a league-high 77 sacks during the 2022 CFL regular season.
Meanwhile, the Edmonton Elks announced Thursday they had hired Stephen Sorrells as their offensive line coach.
Sorrells was the offensive line coach for the Riders from 2017 through ’22. The Riders said after the 2022 season that they would not be renewing his contract.
