The 109th Grey Cup is just days away from taking place at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium and the weather forecast for the big game Sunday is looking promising.
Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips suggests Sunday could be as good of a day as you could ask for.
“Temperatures at kickoff time might be -2 (Celsius), after a full day of sun. The last moment you’ll have snow is Friday,” he said Thursday.
That will be welcome news to the Toronto Argonauts and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who were probably anticipating worse weather than what is forecasted.
Phillips says it should be warmer with better conditions in Regina than in Toronto or Winnipeg.
“If I was a Winnipeg player or Toronto player, I’d rather be in Regina,” Phillips said. “In Winnipeg, they could see -8 and in Toronto, snow flurries and the same temperature as Regina.
“My sense is this is going to be really great weather.”
Kickoff for the big game Sunday is set for just after 5 p.m.
While the temperature will drop, Phillips doesn’t think it’ll be anything too extreme, particularly when it comes to the wind chill.
“Winds are always an issue in southern Saskatchewan and my sense is the winds could be moderate, maybe 20 kilometres per hour,” Phillips said. “So you combine the northwest winds with the temperature, you could have a wind chill of -8.”
