Martensville is cashing in as it looks to build a community recreation facility.
On Monday, the federal and Saskatchewan governments announced more than $32 million in funding for the construction of the building. It was one of nine infrastructure projects to receive funding from the two governments.
The Martensville facility is to feature a regulation-sized ice surface with spectator seating, a leisure ice surface, a full-sized indoor artificial turf facility, an indoor rock-climbing wall and an indoor playground. There also will be multipurpose
rooms, changerooms, washrooms and concession areas.
The federal government is putting up more than $17.8 million, with the province adding more than $14.8 million. The city also is contributing nearly $12 million.
The federal and provincial governments are putting some $40 million into the nine projects announced Monday.
The Muskoday First Nation is getting around $3.5 million to build a new centre for cultural events, ceremonies, workshops, language classes, history, art, dance, land-based learning and memorials.
Other projects include bridge replacements, repairs to community halls and the decommissioning of a landfill.
In total, the federal government is investing more than $22.3 million in the projects, while the Saskatchewan government is contributing more than $17.7 million.
