Several Saskatoon police vehicles were still parked around the Crazy Cactus bar and nightclub Monday afternoon, two days after the death of a 23-year-old woman inside the building.
Officers stationed outside the location told 650 CKOM the site remained an active crime scene.
According to Saskatoon Provincial Court records, 22-year-old Paige Theriault-Fisher has been charged with one count of manslaughter in connection with the death of Hodan Hashi.
Theriault-Fisher appeared in person Monday morning, but was remanded in custody until Thursday for a bail hearing. The Crown opposed her release.
Saskatoon police say they were called out to the nightclub at 2:41 a.m. on Saturday for a report of an injured female.
After they got to the scene, Hashi died despite the lifesaving efforts of police and paramedics.
Several videos from bystanders have been circulating on social media. They show two women in an altercation as a large crowd stands around them. One of the women appears badly injured.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Hashi, and so far it has raised nearly $20,000 of a $40,000 goal.
Page organizer Aisha Nur writes the money is being raised for funeral expenses, including transporting Hashi’s body from Saskatoon to Ottawa.
