Saskatchewan will be the site of two straight Canadian mixed curling championships.
Prince Albert already had been announced as the host city of the 2022 event. On Thursday, Curling Canada announced the 2023 championship is to be held in Swift Current from Nov. 5 to Nov. 11.
“It is no surprise that Saskatchewan is passionate about curling. That is one of the reasons why it makes sense to bring the Canadian mixed curling championship back to the province for the second year in a row,” Curling Canada CEO Katherine Henderson said in a media release.
“Swift Current excels in hosting curling events — from local grassroots bonspiels to world-calibre championships — and the host committee in place for 2023 will make it a memorable experience for the 14 teams competing for the national title.”
It will be the eighth time Saskatchewan has staged the event and the second time Swift Current has been the host city.
“With our history of hosting successful world and provincial championships, we know that we will, once again, host a very exciting and entertaining championship,” Melody Robertson, chair of the host committee, said in the release.
“Our dedicated volunteers look forward to welcoming the athletes from across Canada, their families and friends to the Swift Current Curling Club, the InnovationPlex, the City of Swift Current and the great Southwest.”
The winner of the 2023 Canadian mixed championship will represent Canada at the 2024 world championship.
