People are gearing up for autumn in Saskatchewan, but the Farmer’s Almanac is already looking towards winter.
The almanac’s managing editor, Jack Burnett, told the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Monday that he’s predicting this winter to be quite chilly.
“Temperatures are going to be colder than normal, precipitation more than normal, but snow near or less than normal,” Burnett said. “So in other words, it’s going to be cold, but it’s going to come in and out.”
What the editor means is that he anticipates temperatures fluctuating a lot this winter, possibly giving people false hope in the process.
Similar to most Saskatchewan winters, Burnett anticipates heavy snowfall and cold periods beginning in November.
“It’s kind of front-loaded into the beginning and middle of winter,” he said. “We are looking for the real motherlode, so to speak, to show up right in December, January and start a little bit earlier in November.”
Burnett is predicting a steep decline in snowfall as we get into March and April.
The first day of fall is Sept. 22.
