The dangerous persons alert for Witchekan Lake First Nation issued by the Spiritwood RCMP has been cancelled.
Police say 22-year-old Kelly Witchekan was arrested in Saskatoon on Monday night while 33-year-old Melvin Starblanket is still at large.
Starblanket is described as being 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
“At this time, we have cancelled the emergency alert. If heightened risk to public safety is identified, we will alert the public,” a statement by the RCMP read.
Around noon on Monday, the RCMP said there were several armed suspects at large in the area northeast of North Battleford.
The initial alert said the suspects may have been on foot, but an update suggested they may have been in a dark red Mustang.
In another update on Monday around 5:30 p.m., the Mounties said the car had been found and was not involved in the incident.
The RCMP also said on Monday that investigators did not believe the incident was related to Sunday’s murders on the James Smith Cree Nation or Weldon.
“If you have information on the whereabouts of Melvin Starblanket, report it immediately to your police service. In an emergency, call 911. Information can be reported to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com,” the statement read.
