A search that lasted nearly six hours and stretched from the Maple Creek area to the Regina region resulted in multiple arrests Sunday.
In a media release Monday, the RCMP said officers from the Maple Creek detachment got a call Sunday at about 9:10 p.m., regarding a theft of fuel from a business in the area.
The vehicle took off, but subsequently was located at a business on the Trans-Canada Highway by officers from the Swift Current Rural RCMP. Those officers stopped the vehicle, arrested the 21-year-old woman who was driving and charged her with impaired driving.
Police said there were several other occupants in the vehicle, including a three-year-old child.
While officers were investigating, another of the adults in the vehicle got into the driver’s seat and drove off.
“Officers suspected the driver to be intoxicated and immediately began attempts to locate the vehicle with the assistance of Moose Jaw Police Service, Regina Police Service and White Butte RCMP,” the Mounties’ release said.
At around 3 a.m., officers from the White Butte RCMP found the vehicle at a business on Highway 1 in White Butte. The officers blocked in the vehicle so it couldn’t take off and then arrested the adults inside.
The child was found safe.
The RCMP said the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
